The search functionality is extremely poor — it fails to support even basic operations that could easily be implemented using a few simple SQLite techniques.
My favourite extension of all time. I always want to go back to pages I saw years ago. After realising chrome had limit of history, this was my only saviour. Also, only reason for me to not to migrate to firefox. The fileformat is so flexible that I exported my google search history and imported it to the extension.
Well done. Works well. Plenty of functionality. Beats the builtin feature BY FAR. Thanks!
I think it works really well. You can even search for incomplete words with an asterisk (*) at the end of the incomplete word.
Not the prettiest thing in the world but a whole heck of a lot better than what Google provides. Geez, for a search company you'd think they'd have something more than a text field and a scrolling list that always gets reset before you get to the date you want to see. Thanks History Trends Unlimited! Thanks to you, I was able to find the page I was looking for on the date I knew to look for it.
This is probably the best, most simple, most invisible when you don't need it, clearly present when you do, Chrome extension that I use. I've been using it for years and have years worth of data. I'm surprised at how often (at least 3 times a month) that I use what seems like ancient history from this data to find stuff.
The "search" function does not work very well. You cannot search by part of one word or by Chinese phrases.
Each time you restart Chrome/Brave it downloads a tsv file by default which is super annoying and not user friendly
Have been using Chrome for years until today when I was looking for a URL and realized for the first time that it only keeps 90 days of it and the user has no options in the browser settings or Chrome flags, an ingenious feature that makes this a real must-have extension that should have been added right after Chrome was freshly installed on my PC.
best one
This extension just does its job really well, you can tell that it was made with the user experience in mind. I've used this for over 8 years now and I can't imagine having to browse history without it. The trends and graphs are neat and very well done, but the real draw for me is the uncapped history limit and the search function. It presents the information concisely, has a simple UI/doesn't overcomplicate things and "just works". Advanced search options are useful, and the local autobackups are also nice. I just wish it worked in firefox, as the history browser there is god awful (as are any alternative history viewer extensions).
very good
Just awesome. I don't get it, why this is not implemented in Chrome by default
Unfortunately keeps corrupting my SQLite history DB, no longer usable :( This is the 4th time now, I've done the arduous recovery process each time but the issue seems to be getting worse.
Flawless app. Rare to see an actually well-designed, user friendly piece of software. Does automatic local backups, extremely fast search, no nonsense.
Nice way to keep a peace in mind if you want to look back at something from 3 months ago you got an ability to store and look back at your past history from months to years ago. Was able to find something with this that Google Chrome has already deleted.
No longer working as it used to. Got the error: "SQLITE_ERROR: sqlite3 result code 1: no such vfs: opfs". Lost a majority of my data. Good thing i backed up some of it, but this shouldn't be such a common occurrence. It's happened twice now.
It worked flawlessly for years but with the new database it keeps corrupting frequently without even notifying the user. It happens even if Chrome wasn't restarted and was just running for a while. It's useless in its current state.
Crashes when trying to view my history with the error "SQLITE_ERROR: sqlite3 result code 1: no such vfs: opfs". Totally broken. :( EDIT: And when I did the pending browser update I had, it seemed to fix itself — but only has history back to 12 days ago. While my history seems to have gotten broken, which is a horrible bug to have, I found I could import all my old backup files by combining them into one with the following bash command: cat *.tsv | awk '!x[$0]++' > combined.tsv
a awesome tool [Feature Request] Auto Backup to a specified folder, not download path I tend to keep my history in a separate folder, When I backup my history, I have to switch to this path. When I download a file I have to manually switch back to the download path again
support chinese?
Backups downloading to my computer automatically is a strange setting to have on by default
Finally, you too get to keep your internet history—not only Google. Awesome!
Works very well, and has for at least the past year. I would request the option to customize how the files are named, so that I can tell which computer each file relates to. (I use this to keep histories in sync between home and work computers.)
Error message: SQLITE_ERROR: sqlite3 result code 1: no such vfs: opfs
When I'm reloading HTU. The "SQLITE_ERROR: sqlite3 result code 1: no such vfs: opfs" error occured. It doesn't load. When I restarted the PC. All the history since february 2023 all disappeared. I don't know what to do. Only March 7 browsing history is there.
Database corrupted, Database corrupted, Database corrupted, Database corrupted... In the end, this becomes useless.
I don't know why but a while ago it constantly started to ask me where to save the htu backup file (when opening my browser). In the past it did this automatically. I didn't even now there was something like a htu backup file. How unfortunate!
One of the best and must have extensions for people valuing their browsing history. Dev is a godsend. I hope he can expand his donation channels soon, he deserves it. *Also.. I believe a "more up to date/modern" icon for the extension could help getting more users attracted at first sight, matching what is on the thumbnail (the bar chart, right now they feel somewhat unconnected). (I also noticed dev has 2 variations of the extension: one for the 3 month Chrome in-built history, and this with external embeded database! Nice! I hope he can promote and note this 2 differences for users looking what fits best for them)
Great addition for people with better memory than that of a goldfish. As Chrome only remember history 90 days back, this add on is great if you want to come back to a site you visited earlier but didn't keep in bookmarks. I wish it had the option to configure where to store the backups, or even configure a backup file name template.
One of the most useful extensions for sure. What would be nice though - some more tools to work with the data, e.g. removal of all duplicate records to lower the size of the DB, together with a setting to not save duplicates at all. Or a way to ignore certain domains. Not sure if there's a better place to post these suggestions.
i'm happily using this extension since years, ran into an issue yesterday so i sent a message to the dev and he actually pushed an update on the same day to fix the problem! never seen such a fast support/answer, keep up the good work!
Feature request: Add an option to choose the folder backups are written to. Alternatively, an option to append to the backup TSV rather than make new files. Background: I keep my ~/Downloads clean without scripts. The incremental backups impede that. Edit: Oh, probably a limitation in API given the FAQ: "I will consider adding support for the Native File System API once it becomes stable. That should allow you to choose a custom directory"
After the change in database platform it has been SO slow to start up the extension. Even though it still comes in handy!
It is an excellent extension, but the auto backup function doesn't work at all. Given that the data corruption happens monthly now, it is a serious problem.
With the corruption thing going on does that mean that all the history I haven't backuped is gone? :(
I've been HTU for years and back in September I was able to import my WebSQL history to the new format (On Sept 9th) and it's been working fine for a while... But I just found out today that for some reason, all of my history past November 7th disappeared and I don't know why. I still have history from September and I still have my old WebSQL history file so I can still import and get a majority of my history back but... For some reason HTU doesn't want to import my Chrome/Opera history from September 10th to November 7th... I have a question, I apparently made a backup of the history on the 7th of November (Never used the backup feature but used it on that day just to test it and deleted the backup file afterwards) and I don't know when but that's the last point in history that HTU saved, refusing to save past it. Should I uninstall and re-install HTU to import all of my history or is there another way to force HTU to save all my history of the browser? I'm lucky I caught on to this as the 3 months since september are slowly disappearing in my browser's history. It's a weird bug alright! If I figure this out, I'm going to re-enable backup seeing how this new database system is finicky alright.
Unable to backup from the UI. The extension keeps running out of memory and crashing. Update: After reinstalling and restoring my database manually from the WebSQL restore guide, now when backing up instead of crashing it just gets stuck on the loading animation. I even let it run for a whole day.
