Doesn't work.
Does a good job of simplying web pages to text and provides a clear readable view, just as you would expect. There are a limited number of theme options but to get more requires a monththly payment (I don't mind paying tor apps/extensions but I don't like renting them). Seems to assume you have microsoft fonts installed and changing font doesn't work if you don't. Does not detect other fonts on your machine.
Good replacement for Diigo
This is a "featured" extension so perhaps in the future I will use it, but not now: As there is no guarantee several issues mentioned in previous reviews have been fixed or not, I will not use this extension for now. If you have issues with certain websites, please explain what kind of issues to help the developer, who doesn't seem to reply to any reviews here. Does ChromeWebStore allow developers to reply to reviews publicly? Wouldn't it be nice? Some issues: several reviewers in January 2025 reported of security problems, are they now fixed or not?
No funciona sin un código de activación
Extension doesn't appear to work correctly on https://walkingredwoodcity.com/
After installing a WordPress theme update on one of my websites, I started seeing these unusual navigation icons (that you couldn't actually click) overlaid on top of and pushing the visible area of my website down about 100px. Today, I decided to disable all my Chrome browser extensions one-by-one to see if it had an impact. Turns out, this plugin was the culprit. Disabled it and the problem went away. Overall, I really like this plugin and use it all the time to remove clutter when I'm reading. I'd give it 5 stars if they can identify what's breaking some websites and fix it.
The sticky header on my website is broken every time I turn this extension on. I thought I was going mad. I tried to fix my website for several days, when in fact it's just this extension in Google Chrome that is breaking on my end.
Really, It is so amazing readermode extension Thanks for this extension :)
É uma boa ideia, pena que o servidor é muito lento e nem sempre funciona. Espero que no futuro seja melhor, pois assim é quase inútil.
I have no idea what this is or why I have it, it is so distracting and not needed
Didn't install this. Don't want this. Have no idea why anyone needs a shortcut to send a tweet (or X or whatever its now called) from a cell in an google sheet. Just more screen clutter
Antes funcionaba, con la ultima actualizacion es inutil, no sirve para nada. Decepcion total.
This reader mode pop up is extremely annoying and pops up over the content I am working on. If you are trying to sell this product, it isn't working. I am spending all my time trying to remove it.
did not ever install this like other reviews, very sketchy.
--- NOT SECURE --- Company has been compromised by a securety breach, leaked all sensitive data. I do reccomand anyone that have this extention installed to uninstall it asap.
***SECURITY BREACH*** I recommend anyone using this extension to log out from Facebook immediately (and possibly other sites) using Chrome and use another browser to change their password there. After this is done you can then decide if you will continue using Reader Mode, modify its permissions (Chrome Extension settings > Site Access: Change it from On all sites to On click), or just remove it from Chrome. The security incident https://thehackernews.com/2024/12/16-chrome-extensions-hacked-exposing.html compromised this extension. Many users got their sessions stolen from sites like Facebook because of this. As many use sites like this as online identifiers to log onto other sites this incident was a high risk security breach. I know the developer took action but there are some things that could've been managed better from their part: - Right after pushing the update to a clean version of the extension you should've warned all users about the potential breach pointing them to the correct steps to take to protect their data and their online identity. - In the What we've done of their blog post (https://readermode.io/blog/articles/reader-mode-security-incident-what-happened-and-our-response) the dev posted this point: "Multi-factor authentication (MFA) has been enabled across all accounts". Does this mean that MFA wasn't enabled for accessing their Chrome Web Store account? If so this is terrible security practice. I understand that phishing is a huge problem, and that anyone could have fallen for a well crafted email impersonating the Chrome Web Store, but the dev should've taken responsibility and warned the extension users ASAP via a popup or message with the next update. Instead, the dev said nothing, and many people that have gotten their online sessions stolen have still no idea today about the huge security breach and the risk this may bring to their affected accounts. The extension was useful, but the handling of information flow after this breach made me take the decision to remove it. I hope the developer learns from this situation. Communication is extremely important after something like this happens, a vivid example was the LasPass breach, something that ended up costing millions of customers to the once recommended product.
This plugin downloaded a trojan to my computer, then i removed the plugin and it added itself back to my chrome
I am sorry but i liked this plugin because it's quiet. The pop up and new features are unnecessary for me. I think an opt-in approach would be better.
Unnecessary update adds features that get in the way and, at least in my case, actively slow down the performance of my browser. Zero need to fix what wasn't broken.
latest update sucks
Wit the latest update this turned into an annoying extension that inserts a custom context menu when highlighting text. This borders on being malware. One of the buttons in the context menu is for sharing on twitter. Out of all sites on the web they chose the fascist hell hole smh...
Uninstalled for now. Reader Mode 2.0 added some CSS injection that is messed with website layouts.
越改越难用
In Windows defender reported as carrying a trojan virus. False flag or not, the grey territory means this is a total no go for me be it only spyware, bloatware, whatever. Trojan:JS/Malgent!MSR in safe-browsing.js. Threat level: Severe.
Not bad. It should have a better design and more customization. There should be new updates to use system fonts.
I don't recall downloading this extension... And now it wants me to update it? Suspicious - removed.
This is quite possibly the best extension I've installed in any browser! Today there is so much visual garbage and noise on so many pages that they are unreadable to me. Reader Mode takes care of that brilliantly!
Doesn't work and laden with spyware.
this require License Activation key
Spyware contacted a domain that was not allowed by my IT dept
Una porquería. Ahora abre páginas de impact bro diciendo que es para "reducir emisiones de carbono" automáticamente SIN CONSENTIMIENTO DEL USUARIO
Exactly what I was looking for, thank you!!
Best wallpaper and quote app ever!! i love the attention to detail when it comes to the backgrounds and how theres a variety of styles to chose from. inlove with the anime one the most!!
Garbage spyware. It was good, but they ruined it.
Scam plugin. Recently updated with a change to commit advertising click fraud via and call it a "carbon emission offset". Definitely creative I'll give them that.
Not bad
Works great, but these eco mode pop-ups are irritating. If you're going to have this mode, then when it's activated, people should know that by activating it, they are consenting to annoying pop-ups. I didn't even know this app was the reason for these pop-ups until I finally noticed their name in the URL. Then I had to come to this review page to find out how to disable it. You want to ask for permission? Tell us what we're opting into first. Don't just say "you'll help protect the planet," let us know what that protection consists of.
"We value your feedback and are committed to improving communication around this feature to ensure a smoother experience for all our users". Well you did work and the extension is super easy to use as well.
It's very unfair for the people to complain and give one star about simply because they fail to read the instructions (which state that the "ecology" mode is entirely optional). Worse: to shout that the program is a "scam." Were I the developer I would sue them for slander.
So far, I have nothing but amazing things to say about this extension. It greatly improves everyday life, especially for someone like me who has ADHD!
This extension is a scam. Whenever I visit an e-commerce site in India, it opens a new tab that redirects me to the same site with affiliate links. It was really challenging to identify the problem, and I had to reset Chrome multiple times and try various security tools like Malwarebytes. I never expected an app with 200K users, which seemed innocent and was featured on Chrome, to be responsible. After uninstalling it, I finally found some peace of mind.
Constant pop-ups asking to acknowledge that the makers plant trees. Pop-ups continue to show up even if you hit "don't show again"; 5 pop-ups a day for the past week. There is no option to disable pop-ups. Deleted and moving on to another extension.
Malware that keeps popping up even if you uninstall it and darkens your screen with useless popups.
Used to be great. Then I started getting popups to enable "eco mode" (read: open popup ads to earn money). Even if this is ostensibly money being collected for a good cause, I don't want this clutter in my browser. Uninstalled.
Wondering if there is an update to manifest v3?
aCtIvate ThE nEw EcO-mOdE WHeRE we'LL pLANt TReES at NO cosT To You. Yeah no. I got your extension for one reason and one reason alone. I don't need you guys to force darken my screen and shove a pop up on my face. Off to another extension. Bye.
Great job saving our planet! Thanks!
Browser extension that create pop-ups, particularly ad pop-ups, are an instant no-go in my book. Plant your trees, but don't fill my browser with needless extra fluff.
It was a mediocre extension, but I kept it installed because it wasn't totally useless. However, today it started showing pop-ups with the text: "Reader Mode" / "🌳 Activate the new Eco-mode feature where we'll plant trees at no cost to you. Learn more" The pop-ups appear on most, but not all, pages. I didn't give permission to show pop-ups. I will report this extension for abuse and uninstall it ASAP.
