Counter-Strike: Global Offensive (CS:GO), the hugely successful first-person shooter produced by video game developer Valve, was released in August 2012 and has been a mainstay of esports ever since.
Despite its continued success, with the game still breaking records for concurrent users 11 years after its release, the sequel to Counter-Strike 2 (CS2) has just been announced to begin replacing CS:GO at major esports tournaments in March 2024. The PGL CS2 Major Copenhagen 2024 will be the first tournament to make the switch, with others expected to follow.
