Does not censor all words, not even the f word. Useless extension
I use this filter all of the time and it has made it possible for me and my kids to enjoy so many movies and videos I otherwise wouldn't watch because of the bad language! Thank you soooo much for this brilliant extension!!
Great extension, make internet much more tolerable. one thing though, is it possible for filter plural of a word by default? having to add both the singular and plural form of words I want to filter out is tedious.
Whoever created this, I want to give you a tight hug. I myself use profanity and vulgar terms, but something inside me feels anxious - and DESPISES vulgar words. Recently, I've been trying to get rid of it - and it's working. But, I'm still missing soomething??? And this was all I needed, thank you, so very much! The extension can use better updates, however this is very perfect! Thank you, 5/5! :-) Edit: I'm gonna CRY! There's audio filtering, holy heavens. Thank you, dude!
Thank you for making this. As a Muslim, it's a pain in the butt to constantly hear swear words thrown around especially with now normalized it's become to use. This extension makes my life easier in that regard, thanks!
I have PTSD and this is so great to avoid triggering, also good for filtering swearing etc. in general
pretty cool because the YouTube comments are super bad sometimes
The audio muting works perfectly and the audio choices are great! (static one tickled my ears lol)
I'd just like to take a bit of time to express how grateful I am for this extension. Because the internet is the way it is, with it being really easy to find all kinds of completely unfiltered content, and because I'm the way I am, which is to say I have a form of Autism called PDD-NOS (short for Pervasive Development Disorder, Not Otherwise Satisfied) and have had a strong aversion to profanity for over half my life now, I've always felt a strong sense of anxiety when using it, despite the fact that, ironically, I'm also so dependent on it for certain things. After all, it's so easy to put in a search on Google and many other similar search engines that you'd think is completely innocuous only to suddenly be staring at very nasty and negative sentiments, or simply foul language used in an excessive or very unnecessary manner from search results you don't even want (I'm looking at you Reddit). Therefore, it's been nothing short of a huge relief to finally have a reliable source of protection when navigating the unpredictable landscape of the internet that censors, substitutes or removes those often negative, toxic and overused sentiments at any given time depending on your personal preference. While I know this certainly doesn't apply to everyone who uses the internet, it's always really bothered me how a number of people publicly post foul language without stopping to consider how it may negatively affect other people, and in my case, it very much has caused very negative mood swings, depression and an exaggerated, overly cynical mindset towards the world at large over many years. But again, now I can finally protect myself, as well as have a constant reminder with me that I'm not alone in the world, that other people share my personal values about being mindful of one's conduct even when it's so easy not to be when you're behind a computer screen, especially in cases when you have anonymity on your side.... or, at the very least, prefer not to see so much foul language on the internet. After all, if I were the only one, this wouldn't exist to help people, would it? Now, to be clear, this extension may not be 100% flawless or infallible. For example, it will pick up the spelling of certain words that are completely okay just because they have the same spelling as profane words in them. This keeps happening with Japanese names that happen to include the spelling of the s-word for excrement in them, even though the pronunciation of said names or words is often different than the profanity and it's only complete coincidence they're spelled that way with no relation to the profane word. It also obviously can't distinguish between different contexts when it comes to words that aren't always profane or inappropriate; for example, if H-E-Double-Hockey-Sticks is being used in the proper context to refer to the place referenced in Catholicism, it will censor, substitute or remove it the same way it were if it were used non-literally and/or as an exclamation, in which cases it can be considered offensive, albeit still a more mild swear. But that's to be expected. Finally, if you're using the audio feature where you're watching a video that has close captioning or any type of subtitles available, and it mutes the audio if any profanities come up, the timing isn't always exactly right. However, the fact that it even HAS a feature like that at all is quite impressive, and again, makes it easier to watch certain movies and shows I otherwise like, but have some of that saltier language which can potentially ruin, or at least diminish the experience. All in all, this extension has made my internet browsing experiences much more positive. It may not cover every single word I I have an aversion to and/or causes me psychological distress, but it does cover most of them, allowing me to finally protect myself from them and make me feel like I'm not alone. So thank you very much!
Nothing or no one can get me to leave a review unless I choose to do so. With that being said, I literally cannot function without this extension. 11/10! it works well & not just for profanity [I have filtered out everything that's political and racist...on all sides of the spectrum.] Honestly, thank you for this app & its service! P.S. for those leaving 1 star reviews - at least MESSAGE the creator before leaving a bad review. Surely your 'problem' is fixable. Jeez. & no, this review isn't sponsored or fake in anyway.
I can tell you this - that it doesn't filter the "f" word when I watch a film on acorn.tv on my PC. (And I have tried all I can to make sure that I have the settings right so it should filter it.)
Just beware that whatever words are removed in the profanity filter will be removed from every webpage you go to. I added God and Christ to my filter list to be removed because I don't like to hear their names used casually. I find they were removed from everything I was reading. At Christmas time the word Christmas would be missing. There might be two commas together and I could tell something had been removed or didn't make sense. I was turning the filter off (I have the chrome extension on top) for those pages, but it was too hard to keep up with. So now I remove the filter altogether and only when I'm about to watch something I think might have profanity do I enable it again.
