Description

If you're tired of empty clickbait on news sites like "shocking development", "this concerns everyone", "details coming soon", this extension is just for you. It uses artificial intelligence to make headlines clearer, more descriptive and honest; if you want, it also shows how manipulative the news is.

WHAT DOES IT DO?

  • One-click (actually two-click :/) headline cleanup: Right-click the news headline/link, choose “Clean Clickbait” from the extension menu and let the extension rewrite the headline according to the content of the article. That way, instead of exaggeration and curiosity traps, you see a plain headline that focuses on what actually happened.

  • Insight window: With the small icon that appears next to the cleaned-up headline, you can open an "inside story report": you'll see a tone score, manipulation tags, a list of evidence, and a neutral summary. If you like, you can also check the story from other sources using the suggested search query.

  • Statistics only at the level you care about: The extension shows how many headlines it has cleaned that day and in total; just simple numbers, no extra clutter.

PRIVACY

  • It cares only about the news you read, not about you: The extension only sends the headline of the story you act on and a short text context belonging to that story to the AI service. Your browsing history, cookies and passwords are not sent.

  • No extra server, requests go directly to the provider: Clickbait Killer has no backend server of its own. Requests go directly from your browser to the provider you choose (Gemini/OpenAI/Groq).

  • Your API keys stay in your browser: The API keys you enter are stored locally in chrome.storage; they are not sent to the developer or any other server. You can delete them at any time from the extension settings.

  • No tracking: The extension does not include an analytics system that tracks your clicks, the sites you visit or your usage habits. It only keeps a simple counter of “how many headlines have been cleaned”. This information is also stored in your browser and is not sent outside.
